You may have noticed him resting on his perch holding a kazoo while Hooey delivers some low end sonics, but there is a lot more to that featherless, funny shaped fowl than meets the eye. “Larry is our leader, manager, mascot, and expert kazoo holder. Truth be told, the Gang wouldn’t have any direction if it weren't for Larry," says Hooey. Upon an interview, Larry has revealed that he has always been inspired by Foghorn Leghorn. “Any chicken that keeps their feathers numbered is A-OK with me," Larry adds.

Meet Hooey Bee, protege of Latex Larry and founder of the group. When asked “What type of music do you play?" he often gives a vague, nondescript answer, forcing the inquisitive bystander to ask the rest of the group the same question. He is often described as a nonconforming conversationalist with a peanut gallery flare. Meet Giued, washboard extraordinaire! She also plays harmonica and ukulele, and has been seen on stages across the country, including Nashville, Kentucky, and New York. Her multifaceted talents allow the group to have a diverse range of sounds, all while keeping everyone in line with her excellent meter. Rumor has it she can play any Neil Young or Bob Dylan tune on the harmonica while playing the ukulele. 

Meet Pink! Guitar savant of the Gang. Thanks to his talented phalanges, the Gang has the ability to take on just about any song with confidence. Pink adds, ”I’m not trying to take a solo on every song, but Latex Larry insists on it. He’s the one that’s in charge, after all." You can often find Pink in his home gym, where he offers a private 1:1 coaching session with anyone wanting a healthier lifestyle. Meet Birdee, clarinet half of the horn section. The musical love child of Benny Goodman and Alice Cooper, Birdie bounced between various Portland-based big band, gypsy steampunk, and classical combos before joining the Gang. She attended the New Orleans Traditional Jazz Camp in 2017, where she learned from trad jazz clarinetists Dan Levinson and Tom Fischer, and she continues to study music theory with Portland-based bassist extraordinaire Leah Hinchcliff. Fun fact: Birdie has 135 percent lung capacity according to a 2010 spirometry (breathing test) result.

After years of playing jug with groups like the How Long Jug Band

embouchure and join The Gang as a trumpet player. A dedicated ambassador of jug band music, he leads a monthly jam and has taught classes and produced events around the country. For a day job, he helps bands of all kinds get organized with his BandHelper (https://www.bandhelper.com) app.
